Thumbshot Gallery

This week we added a new feature to our search results.  Each result category now allows you to see the search results as a gallery of sites.  The images in the gallery are larger than the images displayed in the streaming web pages.  By using the gallery you are now able to get even more detail about a site before you navigate to the site.

To bring up the categories site gallery click on the gallery icon that is next to the category name.  The gallery icon currently looks like a magnifying glass. gallerybutton  The site gallery will show one site at a time with the site description under the site image.  To navigate through the category gallery, you can use the gallery controls at the top of the site image, or you can use the left and right arrow keys.

What is new with Webkruz

Over the last few weeks we have made a number of enhancements to your search engine. The two most notable updates have been the image quality, category index and adding the ability to have advertisers.  Of course, there have been a number of bug fixes as well.  There is still work to be done to make it easy for advertisers to manage there own accounts.

Rich Images

Over the last couple of weeks we have been trying to get better quality images.  The images that we previously had were designed to show the concept behind Webkruz but not be in the final product.  The images are now larger, so they are now clear which makes it easier to see a page’s details.  When you hover your mouse over a site, not only will you see the pages details, but you will also get to seem more of the page.

Category Index

One of Webkruz’s unique features is the results categories.  The categories help you quickly drill down into the set of web pages that you are trying to find.  There are currently four categories per results page.  We have now added a category index.  The index allows you to quickly find what you are searching even if it is on a different result page.  The index is designed to be like a cloud tag.  The larger the text is the more relevant the category to the search criteria.

The category index helps navigate the search results.

Advertisment

Webkruz advertisements are going to be able to use rich media advertisement.  Rich media advertisement gives the advertiser the power of video to express their products instead of static text.  When you hover your mouse over an advertisement, the sounds will start to play.  Move your mouse away from the advertisement, the sound will again be muted.  There will be two zones where advertisements can be placed.  The first zone will be on the welcome page.  Under the search text area, there will be a trailer style advertisement.

Of course, there will also be advertisements on the results page.  The results page is a great way for advertisers to target their advertisements to the search query.  An advantage of rich media advertisements is that we are able to support advertisers that text advertisements just can’t support.  For example an advertisement for a soda drink can not be fully expressed via a text advertisement.  However, showing commercials on television and now webkruz for these type of products is very successful.

Page Hit Details

The page thumbnails are great way to get an idea about a page before wasting your time navigating to the wrong page.  The categories are also very helpful to zero in on the group of hits that truly pertain to what you are trying to find.  While these features are going to be revolutionary in the search engine market, you still need to be able to have textual descriptions about the page.
